Big boy hair

My sweet little dark, curly haired baby is no more.  Hatch has always had amazing hair, but lately it had been getting in his eyes all the time, and the back was becoming a bit of a rat’s nest without daily brushing.  It’s pretty challenging to brush a 10 month old baby’s hair without a lot of tears, and I was starting to feel like keeping his hair long was really only for my benefit.  I’d always planned to wait until he was a year to trim his hair, but that number started to feel increasingly arbitrary.  Was it really worth putting off my emotional anguish about getting his hair cut for two more months, if it meant two months of him having to view the world through his bangs?

So we decided that on Sunday morning we’d head to a barber shop and see if it was even possible to get a 10 month old’s hair cut.  At first Hatch really wasn’t sure what to think, and kept wanting to grab the scissors and comb.  Our barber (who had just finished cutting P’s hair) was about to give up, but a second barber saw what was going on and snip, snip, snipped really quickly while the original barber was distracting him.  The entire salon cheering him on, and they managed to get it done!  Apparently he was their youngest customer to date, which isn’t surprising since I havent’ seen many babies with his amount of hair.

He’s so blond now, and looks much more like his dad!  I can’t say that I was crazy about cutting off his curly locks, but I have yet to cry about it and I do think he’s probably better off being able to see!
